Taupo Local Information

North of the volcanic region lay the vast waters of Lake Taupo.  The massive crater which formed the lake was the aftermath of a colossal volcanic eruption, and the region still bubbles with geothermal activity.

Measuring 619 square kilometres Taupo is New Zealand’s largest lake.  The township on the lakes eastern shore is a hive of activity all year round.  In the summer visitors come to jet boat, water ski and trout fish, whilst during winter the town is a base for skiers.

There’s plenty to see and do in and around town. Make sure you visit the Huka Falls – 200,000 litres of water per second gush through the falls making them truly awesome.

Also considered one of the best places in New Zealand to skydive, don’t pass up the opportunity to view this stunning region from the air.
