Only an hour and a half by car from Auckland, the Waikato is known for its lush farmland, tracts of untamed native bush, deep gorges and rolling hills. It is also a region steeped in Maori history and heritage.

Hamilton, the largest city and commercial heart of the Waikato, lies on the banks of the winding Waikato River. 

To the west of Hamilton is Raglan, a world-renowned surf beach known for its uncompromising left-hand break.  This town caters for surfers and holiday-goers alike and is characterised by the laid-back surfing lifestyle it attracts.
