Gisborne Information

The first city in the world to see the sun and one of the sunniest places in New Zealand, Gisborne promises a warm welcome. Since it was first inhabited by Maori, Gisborne's sunny outlook has been a drawcard, the Maori name for the city being Tairawhiti - "the coast on which the sun shines across the water".

An up and coming food and wine destination, a thriving cultural core and the award winning Tairawhiti museum and art gallery also add to the appeal of Gisborne.
